Who we are ?

Launched in June 2013, the Family Entrepreneurship and Society Chair is a unique research and knowledge-sharing centre in France. Our goal is to contribute to academic research on entrepreneurial families and family businesses based on intimate knowledge of the field and constant dialogue with all stakeholders - shareholders, researchers, public authorities.

Our mission

The Chair's scope of action is the production of new knowledge at the academic research level and the dissemination of this knowledge to our students, shareholders and employees of family businesses, as well as to the general public. The Chair has three main missions:

  1. To produce quality academic research on entrepreneurial families and family entrepreneurship ;
  2. To disseminate knowledge on entrepreneurial families and family entrepreneurship to a large non-academic audience;
  3. To be close to family businesses and to defend their 'cause'.

The Family Entrepreneurship and Society Chair is a place for research, knowledge sharing and best practices for entrepreneurial families and family businesses.

Our vision

Family businesses are the most widespread form of enterprise in France today. Maintaining family businesses and their expertise as well as the decision-making centres in the country is a major economic and social challenge. Preparing the next generation of entrepreneurs contributes to strengthening the sustainability and accelerating the growth of family businesses.

Our positioning

Our positioning dedicated to family entrepreneurship is expressed through three convictions that inform our thinking and actions:

  1. To strengthen the sustainability and growth of family businesses, their entrepreneurial skills must be preserved and passed on;
  2. To secure the transmission within the family, the entrepreneurial spirit of young families must be developed;
  3. In order to encourage young family members to become entrepreneurs, the desire to be entrepreneurial within the family business must be instilled in order to strengthen the motivation and commitment of young family members (launching new products/services, opening new markets, going international, changing business models, etc.)

International recognition

The academic expertise of The Chair is recognised at regional, national and international levels. Since 2016 and its entry into the global STEP (Successful Transgenerational Entrepreneurship Practices) project, The Chair has provided leadership to the French team.
